What Makes Lingerie Sexy?

When shopping for sexy lingerie many women find themselves asking the question; what makes lingerie sexy? While they browse through different lingerie websites and search through racks of lingerie at the store, a lot of them wonder whether or not something is sexy enough.

We thought it would be appropriate to ask several guys how they would define sexy lingerie to get a more professional opinion on the subject at hand. Here is what they had to say:

Todd B., a real estate agent from North Carolina replied: “Something classic, like a black or red satin corset with matching hosiery. I really like lingerie that is soft to the touch and that isn’t too revealing. It’s much better to leave more to the imagination. It’s also important how the woman wears the lingerie, if she wears it with confidence, she would probably look good in a potato sack.”

Chris K. a New York banker responded: “I like lingerie that is understated the most. A silk gown or a sheer one piece. Lingerie that is simple, yet elegant. It’s also a lot of fun to change up lingerie styles every now and then. Maybe wear something more erotic on a special occasion and reserve the typical lingerie staples for your everyday wear.

Women shouldn’t be afraid to change up their lingerie styles every now and the, it adds a lot more excitement. There are a lot of things that constitute sexy lingerie. I guess in all reality, all lingerie can be sexy on a woman.”

Shawn P. a Chicago bartender conceded: “I’m into the whole girl next door look. I like cute lingerie that is fun and playful. It is usually indicative of an adventurous free spirited girl. You know the kind of girl that can watch sports with you on the weekends and go tailgating at football games but still look amazing in a dress.

Matching bra and panty sets, cute baby dolls, and even a tank top with some pajama pants; they all do it for me. I guess it depends on the girl the most, if she has a great personality she can probably pull off any type of lingerie.”

The Wonderful World of Leather Lingerie

I had never tried leather lingerie before. I guess that I had some false preconceived notions about it in my head.

I assumed that leather was associated with stereotypes I had in my head. I could not have been more off base in my assumptions though.

For my birthday my husband brought me some leather lingerie as a present. He gave me a leather corset and some coordinating tiny shorts.

I will admit that I was slightly taken aback when I opened the box but after some encouraging words I decided to go and try on the leather lingerie.

I’m not sure why I felt uncomfortable about it; I had a pair of leather pants and a leather skirt that I wore quite frequently. I guess I had never considered purchasing lingerie that was made of leather.

I tried on my new leather lingerie and was quite amazed before I even looked into the mirror. The first thing that I noticed was how comfortable it was. The leather was soft and supple to the touch.

Next I noticed that the leather was form fitting, yet not tight. It seemed to offer the perfect balance of lift and support to the exact areas that I needed it.

My behind and my bust were lifted and shaped quite nicely, while my stomach was held in to appear completely smooth. I was surprised by the magic that this leather lingerie was performing.

My first glance into the mirror made me quite confident. The leather lingerie looked as good as it felt. It accentuated all of my feminine curviness while seeming to hide any of my problem areas. I was sold.

I enjoyed the way that it made me look and feel. I couldn’t believe that I had ever thought negatively about lingerie made of leather before. I had been completely missing out on one of the sexiest styles and most practical materials for lingerie. What a shame!

My husband finally knocked on the door to ask me if I was ok. I walked out of the room with my leather lingerie and a wide smile.

He made sure to tell me over and over gain how amazing I looked.

The best part was that I felt amazing! From now on I will certainly keep my eye open for lingerie that is made of leather now that I am fully aware of all the secrets that this lingerie holds.

After flipping through dozens of popular fall style magazines it became apparent to me that lingerie has now become a crossover item that is completely acceptable as belonging in a fall wardrobe.

For years I’ve noticed a trend that many clothing designers began taking elements from lingerie design and incorporating them into their fashion.

Camisoles were made from silk and trimmed with lace becoming almost identical to lingerie camisoles.

Leggings and tights in different patterns in mainstream stores and on the runways were identical to the special hosieries that lingerie retailers specialized in.

Now more than ever before has the design of lingerie transitioned into the design of both daywear and nightwear.

This is extremely noticeable when you take into account the popular materials of this fall: leather, satin, and sheer. In fact, you can easily take items from your lingerie closet and pair them with some fall fashion items to achieve a runway fall fashion look on your own. Lingerie is even acceptable as day and office wear in some circumstances.

My Lingerie Debacle

Okay, I literally had one of the most embarrassing experiences of my life occur when I was shopping for lingerie for women. I’ve heard several stories from my friends about running into old teachers and family friends in lingerie stores.

While these stories seemed quite awkward, none of them can compare to mine.

I went to the closest lingerie store to my home to shop for something extremely sexy for a weekend getaway with my boyfriend. It was our first trip together as a couple after about six months of dating.

Maybe staying local was the biggest mistake, but who wants to travel for miles just so that they can purchase some erotic lingerie for women? I for one thought that I would be safe in the lingerie store.

So I entered the store and started browsing through some of the more erotic selections, I picked up a crotch-less lace bodysuit and was holding a shelf top bustierre in my hands when I heard someone call out my name from behind.

Already feeling my face turn scarlet I turned around. It was my boyfriend’s mother AND father! I wanted to melt into the floor like the wicked witch of the west.

His mother approached me with a curious look on her face and the father was definitely grinning. I wanted to drop my merchandise and run out of the store but I could barely move.

I stood mortified in place as they approached. The mother asked me what occasion I was shopping for as she frowned at the items I was holding in my hands. I quickly came up with a lie.

I told her the lingerie for women I was holding was for a bachelorette party I was attending. She stared me down and commented that I must have some sleazy friends. I was pretty sure that my face was turning purple.

My boyfriend’s mother explained that she was also there shopping for a gift for a bachelorette party and held up a much more conservative lace white robe with a white floor length satin gown that she was going to purchase.

After shooting me one more grimace she said goodbye and went into the check out line.

From that day on I promised to do all of my lingerie shopping online in order to avoid any more awkward moments like that.

My boyfriend keeps asking me about going to dinner at his house, I’d rather die first!
