I recently started working as an assistant at a boutique PR firm on top of my part-time position in retail. My job descriptions for the two jobs overlap, which really works to my benefit. The PR agency has a lot of clients in the fashion and retail industries and the integration of the two jobs helps me to understand a greater demographic in all things fashion. Fit, style, trends, Dos, Don’ts, mishaps, blunders, quick fixes. I am quickly learning it all and learning how to handle all circumstances under high pressures. While one job gives me the clients who set the trends, another job gives me clients who demand the trends. I can go from one place to the next incorporating the two with advantageous benefits, but it’s not so easy all the time. It’s definitely not at 9-5 and the hours that I spend round the clock are making me feel more like an on-call surgeon than a personal stylist. But I love it.
The relationships that that I have developed with my clients are evidence of the authentic value I have for them and the industry. I have even formed some great friendships over the past eleven months at both companies. On top of that, I have a great clientele base and great references that will hopefully get me in the door to more clients and companies.
With all the time I spend between the two jobs I realized how little time I had been spending with my main squeeze. I decided to plan a special night for us and slipped on sexy sheer lingerie set to wear for him. Just as we were getting cozy, I got a phone call. Lo and behold, one of my clients had an emergency issue. When I picked up the phone, she screamed, “I have a business dinner and a cocktail party on top of each other. Help!” I told her that doesn’t sound like a big problem and she said tonight was her and her husband’s anniversary. That was the big problem.
She didn’t want her husband to find out she had a scheduled conflict, but she couldn’t miss the events. The solution to her problems was to multi-function her outfit. A sleek black tube dress quickly transforms into a timeless black cocktail dress from leaving the dinner party wearing it as a fitted high wasted skirt which could accentuate her trim waistline over a scoop neck blouse. From the cocktail party to dinner, she switched from pearls to diamonds and from then on spent the rest of the night in her diamonds and an her sexy sheer lingerie.
Needless to say, the night ran as smooth and just as flawless as the sexy sheer lingerie she wore underneath. She even was noted for her pulling off seamlessly svelte and sexy chic in a recent magazine. When they asked her how she achieved the look, she said it took a little help from a friend with the skills of a brain surgeon.
